The ships of Begin are usually equipped with a combination of physical and energy weapons. Each vessel type has a different area of ability and fits into a different tactical niche. Below, you'll find an overview of the various types of armaments found in the game.

  • Phasers

This beam weapon has (depending on which model of emitter) a maximum range between 1800 and 2500 distance units. With a controllable beam width, these slashing beams can cut into the shields of an enemy with a 10 degree strike or swat incoming torpedoes out of the sky with a 45 degree wide-beam strike.

  • Torpedoes

From the quick moving mk7 of the Federation fleet to the inexorable advance of the devastating Plasma round, torpedoes provide ranged attack capability in most ships. These can be used for distant strikes against fleeing targets or at medium distances just outside of the knife-fight range of phasers.

  • Probes

These lumbering homing missiles carry large antimatter bombs that can finish off some of the fiercest opponents... if they aren't detonated next to you first. Difficult to use effectively in battle without bloodying their owners, these weapons can be dynamically commanded and re targeted after launch.

  • Boarding parties

Ships equipped with transporters can send boarding parties to ships with at least one failed shield. These suited attackers work their way through the bowels of enemy vessels until, if they can get the last holdout, they capture the bridge and present you with a new ally in your fight. Careful: If you keep shooting at this ship while your crew takes on the defenders, you'll be shooting your own guys too!
